Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church

Our Lady of Guadalupe had a transformative impact on religion in the Americas. The design approach was shaped by Our Lady of Guadalupe’s reverence and impact on faith in this part of the world. The architecture sought to create a spiritual experience that reinforces the relevance of Christ in the 21st century by creating a forward-looking, progressive and modern tropical architecture. The Church structure is the shape of a traditional basilica, with a cruciform plan, main nave and transept superimposed on a flexible floor plate. The chapel building, containing the Daily Chapel and the Adoration Chapel, is shaped like a womb, representing Our Lady of Guadalupe as Patroness of the Americas and of the Unborn. The Parish Center has banquet style seating for 200 and houses the Church’s administrative offices. The church’s exterior features a bell tower and art elements imprinted with a detailed flower pattern and stars found in the original image of the Lady of Guadalupe displayed at the Basilica in Mexico City. A 10-foot high bronze corpus of Christ is situated on a 20- foot high wooden cross in the main sanctuary, which features two large stained-glass windows depicting key moments in the life of St. Juan Diego.
