Miami-Dade College Medical Office
The new Medical Office Building will provide flexible and adaptable floor plates, allowing for either growth to MDC programs and/or partnerships with the surrounding Health District. The MOB will facilitate practicums, mentorships, and opportunities to build relationships and personal connections that model success. The MOB has evolved into a building type now at the forefront of innovation in the medical services delivery system. Hospitals throughout the country are decentralizing many of their operations to this new, lower cost facility alternative. Many of the future work environments for MDC students will in fact be in MOB settings as opposed to the traditional hospitals. The MOB can therefore become a learning opportunity for students regarding the latest trends in the medical services delivery systems. As such, this MOB is flexibly designed to accommodate any type of medical related use, from diagnostics and ambulatory care to integrated practice units (IPU’s) and conventional medical practices. The building structure and infrastructure systems will accommodate a variety of demands to facilitate changing medical facility needs. Additionally, the ground floor of the MOB will provide students with a “casual encounter” with the medical field. The MOB provides an active urban setting with cafés and retail activity for students and professionals to mingle and meet with potential future employers.
