ZYSCOVICH

Shul of Downtown

The Shul of Downtown is an affiliate of the worldwide Chabad organization and The Shul of Bal Harbour. The Center has been providing critical educational programs and social, legal and student services. As it has expanded, it became more and more vital that the programming have a home of its own. In 2009, the synagogue began planning for a new facility.

As the first synagogue to be built in the city in more than 60 years, location was critical to the project. The final site is centrally located for downtown and Brickell’s growing residential base.

Zyscovich was selected to provide design services for the four-story structure containing ground floor retail, a synagogue, multipurpose room with a Kosher kitchen, rabbinical offices, library, classroom space, rooftop play area and a mikvah, which is a Jewish ritual pool. A limestone finish combined with aluminum storefront and glass creates a modern interpretation of traditional Jerusalem stone work.
